Agents and the Spike objective
Riot’s beginner guide explains five-player teams, attacking and defending roles, and planting or defusing the Spike. Agents have different abilities. The guide also describes switching sides after 12 rounds in its standard format; an esports tournament’s own rules remain the source for that event’s settings.
Map wins and round wins
A team may win a round without winning the map, and win one map without winning a multi-map series. Keep those units distinct when reading a scoreboard. In a best-of-three example, two map wins decide the series, regardless of how many rounds were played on either map.
Publisher rules and event administration
The brand esports page names Valorant. Riot’s gameplay explanation does not verify a 12Play fixture or how a market treats a technical pause. A source-led event description should retain the tournament, stage, map order and applicable rules. Agent lists and map pools can change, so this guide does not present a fixed roster as permanent.
Quick reference
- Agent
- A playable character with abilities. Preserve the agent name separately from the human player and team when describing a lineup.
- Attack / defence
- These identify sides within play. A side switch is not by itself a new map or a change in the teams competing.
- Spike
- The objective device discussed in Riot’s guide. An objective result and an elimination statistic describe different aspects of a round.
- Series scope
- A match listing can concern one map or a multi-map contest. The round count cannot be compared directly with the number of maps won.

Common question
Can CS2 rules be used to explain every Valorant listing?
No. They are separate games with different mechanics and event rules, even though both use rounds, maps and series.
Sources & scope
12Play public Esports page supplies the brand context. Publisher and governing-body references above explain products or rules; they do not establish a commercial relationship or a current operator configuration.
