The game score and deuce
ITTF’s Table Tennis 101 explains games to 11, requiring a two-point margin at 10-all. Service normally changes after two points and after every point at deuce. These scoring units explain why 11–10 is not a completed standard game.
Match length depends on the event
The same ITTF guide describes different best-of formats for its Olympic event examples. It should not be read as one universal match length for all competitions. In a best-of-five example, three games decide the match; a best-of-seven example requires four. Retain the event name alongside the score.
A team tie contains more than one contest
A team fixture can contain several individual or doubles matches. A listing for one player’s contest is narrower than the team’s overall result. The brand’s table-tennis mention does not verify a live schedule, a particular event format or the treatment of an unfinished match.
Quick reference
- Point score
- At 10–10, a two-point margin is required under the standard scoring explained by ITTF. The next point alone does not complete that game.
- Game score
- A 3–1 result at match level counts games, each containing its own point history. Do not treat it as four total rallies.
- Best-of format
- Best of five and best of seven allow different maximum lengths. Use the event format before interpreting whether a score is final.
- Team result
- An overall team tie aggregates individual contests. Keep a player’s match result separate from whether the team advances.

Common question
Does a 3–2 score mean five points were played?
Usually it denotes games won in a match when shown at that level of the scoreboard. Each game contains its own point score; verify the labels.
